English 4W (Critical Reading and Writing, UCLA Department of English): “Science and Society in British and American Literature.” An advanced English composition course examining poetry, drama, short stories, and novels relating to the theme of science and society. English 3 (English Composition, Rhetoric and Language, UCLA Writing Programs): “Animals in Literature.” An introductory English composition course structured around the theme of animals in world literature. Essay assignments allowed students to hone analytic and compositional skills while engaging with such questions as how definitions of the “animal” vs. the “human” change across time periods and cultures.
